Casa del Mirto
Some say Italian's Do It Better. Although Casa del Mitro is not on Mike Simonetti's fabulous disco label, the Italian producer/DJ's sound is catchy, cool and perfect for tonight's darkest urban haunts. Or the pool. All good music works poolside, right? But it's November, so that'll have to wait, unless your Down Under or in LA. Anyway, have a peek...

jj
Swedish label Sincerely Yours just released these two jj tracks. jj remains a mystery to many, myself included. I believe the boy/girl duo are Swedish. Either way, I dig their white washed sound and fancy samples (i.e. Akon and The XX). Great for early mornings or late nights.
jj - let them (listen closely, the first two lines are direct from Biggie's Juicy, amazing)
jj - i'm the one / money on my mind
I tried to post the Akon track jj samples in the first track above, but the watchful eyes of the record label mafia are upon me. Like Froto and that tower of fire. If I hadn't forked over $18 dollars a pop for those damn alternative rock CD's in the 90's, they might not be such beefy bullies today. Well, at least I can post the XX track jj samples in the second.
The XX - Intro
Finally, here is the link to a few more jj songs I posted earlier this year (so good, especially the Lil Wayne mix!)

The 80s Are Back
"Were the 80s just one big party or was there more going on? This new exhibition at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney takes you back to the music, fashion, parties, politics and the people to find out."
- from the Powerhouse Website.
I am excited to hear about a museum exhibition exploring the zeitgeist of the spandex decade through a variety of media - including design, fashion, music, video games and subcultures. Another reason I should book a flight to Sydney.
As I have become increasingly interested in curating exhibitions of contemporary art & design, I feel it is important to initiate an encompassing cultural event that reflects the attitude of the exhibited works themselves. Events where both contemporary objects AND the contemporary culture in which the objects were produced are on view. We'll see how well I can keep to my own ideals or if I result to the trophy podiums and white walls in the need to make a sale...
On a lighter note, here's an 80's track we all love. Hey now hey now....

Hurtful (2x)
Hurtful(2x). One song, two mixes. The Penguin Prison remix brings me back to SF, HiFi and all those wild and crazy Thursday nights Erasing Texts and hanging with the home boys and home girls. The George Lenton is newer, and a bit harder at points, but also very catchy. A nice track to tackle an English cobblestoned jungle on foot. Perhaps this will be my London memories in the making...

My battery is about to die so I need to be quick. How about this...
I LOVE GOOD POP MUSIC! New Florrie w/ Fred Falke on the production! Check it out.

Milion Young
Million Young will be releasing a full length in early 2011. Here's a track off the upcoming album. If you are hoping for a nice, mellow, synthy, hazy pop jam, like his earlier tracks...you've come to the right place.
Is it just me, or does this sound a bit like Christmas music for twenty-somethings?

Wild at Heart
This fantastic Swedish pop song inspired me to blog well past my bed time. Such is life when you're Wild at Heart. This track is about to be released on Kitsune's 10th compilation, so you know its a good one.

Koji Horigome
Having posted about shoes for ladies, I felt compelled to find some shoes for gents I did. So, here its is, London designer Koji Horigome. The boots above are my faves. I just love their color, design and wooden sole. I am daydreaming of rocking these with my jeans rolled up ever so much so the entire boot and a bit of colorful sock can poke out. I'd were these as well, including the white ones!
Shoes that look like furniture
My first post on women's shoes, which is surprising given the fact I sometimes think I'd be good at designing footwear for edgy contemporary urban ladies. Not sure where that impulse came from, but its true. Zuzana Serbak's new shoes caught my attention, perhaps because they feel at times very architectural or vaguely like furniture in the use of materials, geometry and line. In any case, have a look.

Ghostland Observatory
Ghostland Observatory's brand new release, Codename: Rondo, was panned on Pitchfork - something like a 1.5 outta 10. Although, if this track off the new album is an indicator, I'd say they deserve better. Pretty catchy and very much sounding like the Ghostland we all fell in love with on their debut album. Check it out and make up your own damn mind...

Here We Go Magic
Here we go again...another great tune heard while shopping for vintage duds. Although, unlike my previous post about Active Child, this Here We Go Magic track was entirely new to me until the nice gent at the front register wrote it down upon request. Now, it's on repeat in my cozy Hackney flat as the leaves fall from the trees outside. As Winter approaches, wherever you are, I hope this track makes its way into your routine. It's a gem.

Active Child v. Classixx
My Sweetest & I were putzing around London today, no real plans except to take it all in. We began at the Elk in the Woods in Angel for a super tasty brunch. It was then onto Dover Street Market for some Fall/Winter fashion inspiration and a couple spritzes of Commes de Garcon's fragrance. While "shopping" (loving the clothes, not the prices) a familiar track came on and put a smile on our faces. And so....
Here's the original and the Classixx remix of Active Child's 'When Your Love is Safe.' It's been called bedroom pop, which makes sense given the fact that it's smooth, sexy, emotional and cozier than a goose down comforter. The Classixx remix gives it that oh-so-good saucy R&B'ness we all have come to know and love from the two dudes. Just sit back and enjoy these both....

Electric Youth & Rory Kane
Make your way to the dance floor. Grab a drink and turn the lights down on your way.
The Electric Youth track is an 80s'esque pop explosion. The second is a slick R(ub)&B(ass) track I think you'll want to hear just after midnight on New Years. An anthem for champagne soaked hair...

Found the image of a lonely tree online, added a few squares, and that's about it. Here are some songs of bands you love, remixed.

Austin Eterno - I Remember Shelter (The xx vs. Deadmau5 & Kaskade)
And a new one I think you'll like as well...

Coeur de Pirate
I added this track to a mellow playlist earlier in the week, to accompany a bit of writing. It was one of about fifteen songs, all on the calmer side. I shuffled through the list of tracks and had them repeat as well, intended as background sound. Each time this track came on, however, I paused from writing and simply listened...
Perhaps the duet of a boy and girl and the paired down melody remind me of my first listen to the XX - an album that grows and grows and grows on you listen after listen after listen. Either way, play this track alone and on repeat a few times. You'll be taken by its calming sincerity, at least that's what I hope.
Bedouin Soundclash - Brutal Hearts (Ft. Coeur de Pirate)
And here's another track from the French speaking Canadian songwriter along a buzzing remix of the same track.

The C90's v. Ted & Francis
After two long months, the Internet has finally arrived back into my domestic life! Web sobriety is the worst kind. London is splendid for a number of things, namely art, design, fashion and bangers (audible and edible), but my goodness, the Internet service providers here are awful. Water under the bridge now, and just in time to stream the World Series with my lady coming to visit. Hummm baby!
To celebrate my return to the world wide web, the Giants and my sweetest, here's a snazzy track I just nicked myself. The C90s are a DJ duo here in London and there track 'Shine a Light' gets the mix treatment by Australia's Ted & Francis. And while were celebrating, let's enjoy original Ted & Francis track off their new EP. That's love...

EUC (Brooklyn!)
I've been sitting on this for too long. I'll blame it on the many many distractions here in London. But, bringing it back home, here's the latest from Brooklyn's own EUC (Electric Umbilical Cord), off their brand spanking new The Prey EP. Wes and Cory are my home boys, so give these two some love. Even if they weren't their beats and new take on post punk is rather infectious. Start dancing in the dark...

RAWtation by Adi Zaffran Weisler
Now that I am here in London, I intend to re-focus my posting, or rather, broaden my posting to include more contemporary art and design that I find compelling. I love good pop music, but my passion is for contemporary design/art. I would like for this blog to better reflect that. Hopefully you'll dig it as well.
To start, here is the RAWtation collection from Israeli designer Adi Zaffran Weisler. Weisler has created a series of tables and stools by combining sticks, twigs and tree branches with plastic molds.
Throughout the 20th century, modernist designers and architects sought to distance their work from the natural world through a conceptual (almost religious) dependence on the machine. For the Italian Futurists, the motor car typified an ideal of beauty, while the dutch de Stijl designers and artists eliminated all decoration in the work, favoring a utilitarian machine aesthetic. The mechanization of the modern world has continued unobstructed, and today our lives literally revolve around our computers. I suspect a digitization of our lives will only deepen.
Weisler's combination of the "natural" and the "synthetic," therefore, is a relevant expression and perhaps a reaction to the computer aided and photo-shopped world we live in today. Not to mention, the pieces look very cool!
