Class Actress

Brooklyn-based electro-pop trio Class Actress is Elizabeth Harper, Scott Rosenthal and Mark Richardson.  I'm captivated by the title track of the 2010 EP, Journal of Ardency.  Here it is along with another track off the EP.  The production work is pretty damn sexy.

Pikachunes

My only recommendation is this - find a way to listen to this song for the first time loud.   Grab your best pair of headphones or plug into some speakers with umph, because those puny lap top speakers just won't do.  Trust me, I made that mistake.  As soon as I popped on my headphones, I knew this song was destined for Your New Neighborhood.

Pikachunes is the solo effort of Miles McDougall from Auckland, New Zealand.  This track is pretty much perfect, start to finish.  I can't wait to either play (or hear this played) out on the scene, preferably after hours.  Lock the doors, dim the lights, grab another drink & if you smoke, there's no need to go outside.  This track is made for the after party.  Get there...

Hurtful (2x)

Hurtful(2x). One song, two mixes.  The Penguin Prison remix brings me back to SF, HiFi and all those wild and crazy Thursday nights Erasing Texts and hanging with the home boys and home girls.  The George Lenton is newer, and a bit harder at points, but also very catchy.  A nice track to tackle an English cobblestoned jungle on foot.  Perhaps this will be my London memories in the making...

Ghostland Observatory

Ghostland Observatory's brand new release, Codename: Rondo, was panned on Pitchfork - something like a 1.5 outta 10.  Although, if this track off the new album is an indicator, I'd say they deserve better.  Pretty catchy and very much sounding like the Ghostland we all fell in love with on their debut album.  Check it out and make up your own damn mind...

The C90's v. Ted & Francis

After two long months, the Internet has finally arrived back into my domestic life!  Web sobriety is the worst kind.  London is splendid for a number of things, namely art, design, fashion and bangers (audible and edible), but my goodness, the Internet service providers here are awful.  Water under the bridge now, and just in time to stream the World Series with my lady coming to visit.  Hummm baby!

To celebrate my return to the world wide web, the Giants and my sweetest, here's a snazzy track I just nicked myself.  The C90s are a DJ duo here in London and there track 'Shine a Light' gets the mix treatment by Australia's Ted & Francis.  And while were celebrating, let's enjoy original Ted & Francis track off their new EP.  That's love...

EUC (Brooklyn!)

I've been sitting on this for too long.  I'll blame it on the many many distractions here in London.  But, bringing it back home, here's the latest from Brooklyn's own EUC (Electric Umbilical Cord), off their brand spanking new The Prey EP.  Wes and Cory are my home boys, so give these two some love.  Even if they weren't their beats and new take on post punk is rather infectious.  Start dancing in the dark...

Sunvisor - Sky Dive

Why not post a song that sounds like weekend sunshine when it's 84 degrees out on a Saturday?  I'm about to take the pooch out for a long walk on the beach, and plan to rock nothing but short jean shorts, shades and a bucket of sunscreen.  This song will be playing on route from my spot to and from the sandy shores of the Pacific Ocean, windows down, loud enough for the neighbors to call the cops. 


Sunvisor is a brand new duo out of New York. "Sky Dive" is their first (perhaps only) release thus far, and it's a damn good start.  Blissed-out synths, drifting vocals, steady beats, subtle layers and happy vibes all make for a nice warm weather jam.   Looking forward to adding more of these dudes to my summer  rotation.

Casette Club

What better way to start the weekend than with a catchy dance jam.  London's Cassette Club fit the bill perfectly.  Their brand new single "4 Me" has gotten the remix treatment from a couple peeps, my favorite being Bestrack's, which I have posted below.

In addition to getting remixed, Cassette Club have done some mixing on their own.  Check out the remix they did of Passion Pit's "Sleepyhead," a nice space-disco take on the well known and liked pop track.

Elite Gymnastics

Elite Gymnastics just released their first EP, Real Friends.  I like what these these 2 dudes from Minneapolis are doing, perhaps because I am having trouble labeling their sound as electro, chillwave, pop or anything for that matter.

Future Islands

Look, I'm not saying that Steffen invented the blogosphere. I'm just saying that he is solely responsible for making it what it is today: a place where good-looking people can get together to talk about cool, fun and/or sexy things...

Enter Future Islands from Baltimore. They're cool, fun AND sexy! And hot diggity dog do they make some insanely good tunes. They're a synth-pop outfit fronted by a dude who looks like Jack Black and sounds like Danzig. Their songs are just drenched in that kind of wistful sun-drenched beauty you can only find at a sunset bonfire with all your best homeys... 'naw mean?
