Javelin
You need look no further than the cover of their album, No Mas, to get a sense for the vibrant eclecticism of Brooklyn based Javelin. Javelin is two dudes, George Langford and Tom Van Buskirk, cousins in fact, who have been making music together as Javelin since 2004. The two claim to have nearly 100 recorded songs, however, No Mas is admittedly their most sophisticated and well produced attempt.
On No Mas, it quickly becomes apparent Javelin is not afraid to blend genres and various music trends. Having vowed never to spend more than $5 on a record, many of the samples seem oddly familiar yet entirely foreign. Early rap beats and electric guitar rifts along side a jingle you might associate with a Portuguese 70's detective TV show. Nintendo beats mixed with accelerated pop vocals.
It's like pineapples on pizza...need I say more.
Javelin - Vibrationz
Javelin - Off My Mind
Javelin - Tell Me, What Will It Be?
Javelin - Oh! Centra

Gucci Mane + Back Ted N-Ted
Gucci Mane is one of those artists who you’re either going to hate or love. If you are feeling Gucci then you are going to love this Back Ted N-Ted remix of "Lemonade" from Gucci's last album The State vs. Radric Davis.

Washed Out
Washed Out is the solo project of Ernest Greene. In 2009, the young man from Georgia (via South Carolina) started releasing hazy synthpop jams under the name Washed Out. His initial EP, Life of Leisure, is infectious and perfect for summer - a claim based on fact. Last summer, all my playlists had a Washed Out track from the EP included.
With a new summer upon us, I was overjoyed to stumble upon a new release of his. "You & I"features the female vocals of Caroline Polachek and a nice & subtle Madonna sample. Listen for it...
I'll post a few tracks from the Life of Leisure EP as well as the new single "You & I," which is fantastic. Your summer just got warmer.

tortoiseshell
I was hoping Renee was going to post this earlier since she has regional rights to this band from Sydney, but I couldn't hold back this gem any longer. Tortoiseshell makes music for the sand pit, island sojourn or pastel bedroom. The first single "This Girl" explores the vast vistas of pop and has already gotten some love by Aussie/DFA mix masters Canyon.

Sunvisor - Sky Dive
Why not post a song that sounds like weekend sunshine when it's 84 degrees out on a Saturday? I'm about to take the pooch out for a long walk on the beach, and plan to rock nothing but short jean shorts, shades and a bucket of sunscreen. This song will be playing on route from my spot to and from the sandy shores of the Pacific Ocean, windows down, loud enough for the neighbors to call the cops.
Sunvisor is a brand new duo out of New York. "Sky Dive" is their first (perhaps only) release thus far, and it's a damn good start. Blissed-out synths, drifting vocals, steady beats, subtle layers and happy vibes all make for a nice warm weather jam. Looking forward to adding more of these dudes to my summer rotation.

DRAKE (brand new)
Drake is set to release his second full length album, Thank Me Later, on June 15. Comparisons are being made to Kanye's 808's & Heartbreak, which is fine by me, as that was my favorite Kayne release.
I got my hands on two tracks off Drake's new album, and if the rest are as good as these, it's going to be another great summer.

Niva
In my previous post, I mentioned my all consuming affection for summer Hip-Hop jams. Well, allow me to backtrack ever so slightly.
On those cloudless blue sky days of June, July, August and September, my mind often drifts to a more tranquil place. Accompanying me on my way are blissed-out songs from the likes of Million Young, Neon Indian, Beach House, Wild Nothing, Toro y Moi and other breezy electro-pop bands. Now included in that list is Niva, a solo artist out of Sweden, who's music I find quite uplifting.
As your imagination wanders, be sure to take Niva along for the ride. Here are two tracks off his soon to be released Feverish Dreams EP. Your sounds of summer just got better.
Niva - Ghost In My Head

Eminem ft. Lil Wayne
Why is it that hip-hop & summer go together like peas & carrots? I will be the first to admit that as the weather warms, all I want to do is rock hip-hop day and night. Here's a brand spanking new Eminem track featuring Lil Wayne, titled "No Love." The song samples the classic dance track "What is Love" by Haddaway....just another night at the Roxbury, it seems.

Sebastien Tellier v. Kasper Winding
Raise your hand if you love Sebastien Tellier, that bearded French dirty electro stud who makes electrosex music for the after-hours. Well, I do.
His latest album, Sexuality, includes some great tracks, all of which got the remix treatment by the likes of SebastiAn, Midnight Juggernauts, A-Trak, Boys Noize, Aeroplane, Kavinsky, Hypnolove, Moulinex & Breakbot, to name but a few. One of my personal faves from the Sexuality Remix album is Kasper Winding's take on the track "Elle." Have a listen.

The Drums
God I love songs about love.
Is the best part of heartbreak & loving someone being able to listen to those songs that just hit home so hard? Well if you say yes The Drums out of Brooklyn NYC dropped their full-length release today and lets just say I'm feelin it!
It would be pretty annoying of me to post 90% of the album, so I narrowed it down to my sneak peek pick which is Forever and Ever Amen. And by typical 'Your New Neighbor' style, below is a remix by Saint Etienne that's currently circulating the Londontown scene.

Don't know much about this Australian trio, but I came across this track on last.fm (it's like Pandora) and I can't stop listening to it.

Casette Club
What better way to start the weekend than with a catchy dance jam. London's Cassette Club fit the bill perfectly. Their brand new single "4 Me" has gotten the remix treatment from a couple peeps, my favorite being Bestrack's, which I have posted below.
In addition to getting remixed, Cassette Club have done some mixing on their own. Check out the remix they did of Passion Pit's "Sleepyhead," a nice space-disco take on the well known and liked pop track.

TOKYO BIKE // Sydney
In Sydney, a cool bike on the street is just as important as having a quality board in the water. Many of my mates have opted for motorbikes (motorcycles for you yanks!) from Deus ex Machina as my best bud 'Jez' makes them with his own HANDS! Unreal. But lets be real, me on a motorbike? I'd kill myself in 2.5 seconds.
Thus, I decided to invest in a pushbike to cruise around. Tokyo Bike straight out of Tokyo just opened their first shop in Australia in Surry Hills. The original store in Japan bustles out over 80,000 bikes a year to cool Japanese riders!
Yuki and Furuki, the owners and cutest couple ever, will help you build a custom bike piece by piece. I only trust Japanese people in projects like this.
I have built the custom bike that is poppin orange with white tires. The only thing missing to this picture is the CUSTOM WOODEN BASKET I ORDERED FROM JAPAN THAT IS DESIGNED PRECISELY TO CARRY A 24 PACK OF BOTTLED BEER. can you say........DRUNKIN PICNIC!?
picture me rollin.

CLOUD CONTROL // Sydney
Every Wed this pub down the street from my pad in Bondi called Beach Rd., showcase local up and coming bands with a live music night. It's always a great vibe and usually the bands are pretty decent.
Although I had quite the many pints THIS Wed, I did not imagine that the Aussie band that played called Cloud Control is extremely talented! On top of talent, the keyboardist / tamborine chick (i think) looks like me and the lead front man is hot with his 1960's Beatles haircut and nice cheek bones.
Their new album Bliss Release rips and I guarantee you see these peeps in the states soon!

Florrie v. Elite Gymnastics
Damn, I love good tunes. And I love it when bands that I am into jump onto the remix train and take songs I am loving and add their own flavor. Man, did I mention I love tunes!
So here is a new track by Florrie, who seems to be the new female vocalist to take the blogs by storm. Her track "Come Back to Mine" is legit, and totally rad to play at lots of fun places, however it can be a bit hard at times. Enter stage right, Elite Gymnastics, to slow it down a spice it up. Elite Gymnastics, who's just released Real Friends EP is at the top of my rotation these days, take the cake with this remix, and remind me quite a bit of a Classixx chilled-out remixe of a harder electro track, which I often prefer more than the originals. I'd love to see what other remixes Elite Gymnastics put out, as they have a catchy sound that I would like to see painted on the surface of other songs.
Check out the album version and the remix below. Enjoy!

Toro y Moi
Its no secret that Your New Neighbor are big fans of Toro y Moi. In fact, Chaz gives me tinkles. This video of "You Hid" was shot by Yours Truly at Different Fur in San Francisco and provides insight on the extent of Chaz's talents.

For those of you who get tinkles too. You will be happy to know that Toro Y Moi's "Leave Everywhere" 7" single is out July 20 on Carpark.
