Beach House

First of all, a big warm fuzzy welcome to the NeighborNeighborhood to Jep. Looking forward to your future contributions my friend.

Since Jep had to go and bring up summer & stilettos, I figured I'd chime in and add a few olives to his martini. Summer is sprouting & the longer days and warmer naps are inevitable. In the spirit of BBQ's, picnics and dirty feet, I bring you three new tracks from Baltimore's Beach House. Their new Teen Dream album, just released on Sub -Pop, is truly a midsummer night's dream and perfect for the pool, for the road, for the late night or early morning. They're out touring the U.S & bits of Europe from now through June, selling out shows left and right. Buy a ticket if you can, and say hello to summer.

Beach House - Walk In the Park

Beach House - 10 Mile Stereo

Beach House - Lover of Mine

Toro y Moi

Super stoked to be contributing to this blog. Thanks to STEFFEN for having me out. I hope you all enjoy my posts. Please send your comments and let me know what you think.

For my first post, Im going with something I really like -- Toro Y Moi (“toro-ee-mwa”). Toro Y Moi caught my ear late last summer right as my pool season was ending. Fortunately enough for me, they're new single comes out right when pool season is beginning. This music was meant to be played by the pool. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy a dope pool party with some G-Unit blasting and bikini models serving martinis dirty in stilettos. But, I really like something like Toro y Moi, where I can take a sip and a quick puff, put down my shades and fade out into the blur of the sun.

Creating a new scene out of South Carolina, along with another Buzzcock gamer Ernest Greene of Washed Out, Chaz Bundick is the brains behind this chill-lo-fi-whatever-gaze mix of intoxicating tracks. Here's the new single "Talamak"

Toro Y Moi just released a full-length album "Causers of This" that includes "Talamak" and other tracks off an earlier LP. These jammies plus another remix are pretty delightful too:

Toro Y Moi - Blessa

Toro Y Moi - Human Nature (MJ Tribute)

Body Language - At a Glance (Toro Y Moi Remix)

I will be seeing you.

The Invisibles

At this month's Milan Furniture Fair (April 14 - 19), Japanese designer Tokujin Yoshioka will present a new collection of furniture titled The Invisibles. The transparent polycarbonate furniture will be on view at the Kartell Showroom. Great chairs for lounging in the nude, among other things.

Penguin Prison v. Jack Penate

Penguin Prison and Jack Penate are both included in practically every playlist I've created over the last 3 months. Whether for driving, dancing, blogging or meandering through foreign cities across the globe, I'll take either one of these dudes as my soundtrack. That said, I am very happy to have a new song that includes them BOTH.

Penguin Prison's remix of Jack Penate's 'So Near' is pretty much perfect. Put this on repeat and go discover beauty.

Jack Penate - So Near (Penguin Prison Remix)

And here's a Jack Penate track you must have, introduced to me by my good friend Black Bear.

Jack Penate - Pull My Heart Away

Wolf Gang

Something about this song makes me feel like my life is set in an early 90's indie film about friendship, drugs, late night rendezvous' and no regrets. I'm not sure why, but regardless, I like the reference. Feels pretty good...

Wolf Gang - Back to Back

And for those who would rather live their lives on the dance floor, here's another Wolf Gang track, this time remixed by Baby Monster, who just signed to Big Stereo's new label. Cool.

Wolf Gang - Pieces of You (Baby Monster Remix)

DRAKE

When in doubt, post some Drake.

'Over' literally just dropped, the new single off his new album Thank Me Later. 'Zone' is pretty recent & 'Fear' is one of my personal favorites from So Far Gone. Of course, there all good, always. I'm looking forward to the new album, as is the rest of pop culture I'm sure.

Drake - Over

Drake - Zone

Drake - Fear

Twin Shadow

It's Sunday. It's Valentines Day. It's beautiful out. A picnic in the park with the dogs floating on the schedule. Here's to sunshine, green grass and love letters. This song seems appropriate, it just puts me in a good mood, even though it's about Castles in the Snow. Ahhh, music...

Twin Shadow - Castles in the Snow

MGMT v. Prince Language

Big ups to DJ illBorn for turning me onto this jam. I'm not sure why this dude is not holding down residencies in every club/bar/party/dressing room in SF. For real, book this piece of meat, he's tasty!

MGMT gets re-worked by Prince Language. The result...priceless.

MGMT - Electric Feel (Prince Language Remix)

Dan Black v. Kid Cudi

This track is getting a lot of love out there in cyberspace, so I figure I would jump on the spaceship as well.

Dan Black ft Kid Cudi - Symphonies (Remix)

Theophilus London

I love this song. You'll love this song.

Imagine this...
In 5 minutes, you'll be off work. Before you head home to cook dinner, walk the dog, see the girl or clean the stove, add this track to you iPod and just walk. Take 30 minutes to stroll aimlessly through the streets of whatever city you call home. With this song on repeat as your soundtrack, you'll fall in love all over again with the mundane elements of your Humdrum Town, for beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Behold!

Theophilus London - Humdrum Town

Million Young v. Memoryhouse

Ever since I first posted about Million Young a few weeks ago, I have had the South Florida dude's blissed-out & dreamy pop tunes on heavy rotation, often while driving alone, in weather I find beautiful, or at home, late at night, with my sleepy dog at my side. Since then, I've seen other music bloggers and DJ's take a serious liking to Million Young, and added a few more of his tracks not included in the Sunndreamm EP.

Now I am finding remixes Million Young has done for other other blissed-out & dreamy pop bands, such as Memoryhouse, which makes sense, as both are on Arcade Sound Ltd.. Take a listen to a few Million Young tracks of his new Be So True EP out 1/19/10, as well as remix he did for Memoryhouse.

So much good stuff...

Million Young - Mien
Million Young - Cynthia
Million Young - Feel the Same
Memoryhouse - To the Lighthouse (Million Young Remix)

And if you missed the boat the first time around, you can download both Million Young's Sunndreamm EP and Memoryhouse's The Years EP for free RIGHT HERE.

jj v. Lil Wayne v. Neo Success

So, there's a back story here. Now listen, jj's Ecstacy already samples lil Wayne's now classic Lollipop beat, although jj takes it a different direction entirely than Mr. Weezy himself. Then Neo Success rolls along, has a creative moment, and says, "Hey mom, would it be okay if I mash up the original Lollipop with jj's Ecstasy, instead of doing my algebra homework?" Thank heavens mama Neo Success said "Yes, yes you can!"

I figure I'll post both jj's Ecstasy and the Neo Success mix, so the above story becomes more than just words. This is real life!
